It's Spring, apparently........

......but this is what we woke to this morning...................

....and about 4 hours later, it had changed to this.............

Large coffee cup added for perspective!

It's definitely not a great day to be a newborn lamb, we are just hoping that the ewes have headed for shelter, it is snowing so heavily now, that we would do more damage than good by going out into the paddocks, and would end up chasing ewes out of shelter and mismothering lambs.  Not even sure if the motorbike would get very far in this at the moment anyway.

Up until now lambing had been going great, weather had been not too bad, and the ewes were lambing with very little trouble.  Guess we are now paying for the great winter we had!  We are only bottle feeding about 12 pet/orphan lambs just now, but that will probably change once this storm passes.  I think most of New Zealand is experiencing terrible weather this weekend, heavy rain, huge winds and sea swells in the North Island and snow and rain in the South Island.  They have forecast it for nearly a week, but after seeing on the news some of the snow that Tasmania in Australia got, we were just hoping it would not get that bad.

My plans for Friday Night Sew-In didn't quite come off as I'd hoped, I did get the cutting out of my quilt runner done, before it just got too cold in my sewing room and I settled for some cross stitching by the fire instead.   Here's a peek at what I was working on.  Hopefully I will have something to show for my efforts by the end of the weekend!

If you were participating in FNSI, I hope you had much better results!

Thanks for stopping by today, have a wonderful weekend.................Nicky

I am sure pleased that's not us!! I have been keeping a close eye on our sheep, they are due to drop any time now. We had a shocker of a night last night and I was expecting to see lambs this morning, but not yet. I was so pleased.Keeping fingers crossed they wait until the storm has passed!
We did have 4 gum trees blow over, bugga!
Hope your lambs are ok:)

loved the pictures of the snow! Glad it wasn't here but I still think it's beautiful. Your SB piece is coming along nicely.

For all they were predicting, Upper Hutt hasn't been hit too bad. It's pretty windy, but the sun has been out at times today.

I can see from your photos that the Met Service were not wrong about the snow down south though. Brrrr. I hope all your little lambs survive.

Love your little Shepherds Bush lamb.

Stay warm!

Hope the lambs are ok. Like you I took the photos early this morning thinking that was it,but no! I hear Stadium Southlands roof has collapsed under the weight of the snow. Just started snowing in the city again. Take care out there.

Oh dear ! I hope your lambs are okay.
Here in Rotorua we are growing webbed feet with high gales, so far no problems that I can see with house or garden, will be able to see better when water stops sheeting sideways . Keep warm.

Wow, that just took me back to last winter where it was snowing lots everywhere, and we were just buried here in Germany.

Oh the joys of mother nature!! Here in Auckland we have gusty winds and quite a few very big branches from the Manuka trees come down. All missed the house so far. I really do feel for the lambs. Keep warm! Cheers

So much snow! Poor little lambs, hope they have found shelter with their Mums. It's really wet and windy here in Taranaki, our trampoline blew away narrowly missing the house! What happened to spring? Keep warm and snug.

Oh my goodness look at all that snow, your poor sheep - hope they all survive Nicky. Your cross stitch is lovely - what's the chart? I have a friend who loves all things sheep. Hope that snow soon melts.

Your photos remind me of some of the spring snowstorms we've had in my part of the world! I guess I'll be experiencing snow sometime in the not too distant future in the form of our first snowfall of the winter season here in the Northern Hemisphere.

I hope that all goes well with the rest of the lambing. Your stitching progress is beautiful!

WOW!!! I'd freeze if I lived there, LOL. I live in the southern part of the US and we've got 90 degrees today and sunny. Just how I like it, LOL!!!
Stay warm!

Wow, I've been out of touch with the weather - we even dehorned calves on Saturday - a bit windy but nothing major. Hope all your ewes and lambs are OK and you don't end up with too many more mouths to hand feed. Great photos though!! Love your stitching - very relevant theme for you I would say!! Take care in that weather.

good grief! they say there is more to come, but I hope not. We had a light skiff on Friday, and I fully expected to wake up to a view like yours, but it was all gone by lunch time.

WOW. My kids freaked when they heard about the snow. They are little and can't understand how the seasons can be so different. I love the cross stitch.

Oh Mother nature can sure spring it to us! Hope your newborn lambies will be ok, it tense time for farmers when things like this happen. Just high winds and rain - lots of it - here. Stay safe.
Lamb - what an apt stitch, very pretty.

That is some spring snow! Looks beautiful, but definitely not the time for it.

Your little lamb looks so sweet!

I was just lamenting the weather in the BOP on my blog, but better be thankful when I see what you are getting.
That's a lot lot of lambs to be handrearing.
I hope you all stay safe and warm and your power stays on.

Lol, you were doing a sheep cross stitch and I was doing a stuffed sheep toy for FNSI! I do hope your sheep haven't been shorn yet as I know the ones in Oz have, yours will need their woolly jumpers. Hope you don't lose too many lambs in this weather or have too many orphans to feed :(.
