When all else fails read the instructions.........

I had some time at the sewing machine yesterday, and thought I'd get the piecing started for the zipper bag I've been working on from Anni Downs' Simple Life book.  So I happily joined all my little mini charm squares and then wondered why they looked like this bag would be enormous........ turns out I was meant to be using 1 1/2" squares, not 2 1/2".   That saying about measuring twice and cutting once...... it is absolutely right, you usually do have to cut at least once....... rather than not at all!  NOT happy - next time I will be more careful  and actually READ the instuctions!

I also got Block 6 of the FQS BOM together, all up to date now, and ready for Block 7 to land in my mailbox.  This block was designed by Kate Spain and is called 'Town Square'.

Running a little behind with these two November blocks for the Scrappy Stars Sew Along that Terry has been inspiring ........ check out her stars all made up into a top already.

And finally this is the ornament I sent to Cheryl in Chookyblues SSCS exchange ........ it is the 2010 Snowman by Lizzie Kate.

I was so sad to hear of the tragedy in Connecticut, my thoughts and good wishes are with all in the US.

Till next time............ happy stitching.........Nicky

Maybe the zipper bag will have a bigger sized sister. Isn't it annoying when you do that, at least you haven't cut the squares too small. Your ornament is lovely.

Had to have a little giggle over the measure twice cut once thing... our mantel piece is testimony to that. If only Mac had followed the rule we wouldn't have a 'squint' fireplace! You just can't unpick cement!! You are doing amazing work on your block projects... I'm so impressed.

Enlarge the stitchery pattern Nicky and make a bigger bag. We all go through these things lol.

Looking lovely despite the glitch. I hve this wee book in my stash too, and will work a few things this year from it.

Awesome ornament Nicky. I have done the oversize cutting thing myself at times, and realised I have cut the hugest piece of material that was really unnecessary. Don't know what i was thinking :-)

Instructions? Read???? Really? I was making the sewing bag out of the SKoW book and for once read the instructions very very carefully...and still managed to end up without lining! *sigh* Your ornament to Cheryl (who has sent to me this year!) is gorgeous...I finally got to put up the Christmas Tree today and so I am enjoying your gorgeous ornament from last year again :)

My whole crafty life is spent correcting me errors it seems, espevially cutting ones! I consider it a challenge to do the recovery. But i get just as annoyed as you are every time!

Your blocks look verry pretty and I'm sure Cheryl just loves that snowman.

Hi Nicky
That's a good lesson for me to learn as I'm about to embark on my first patchwork project in the new year!

I visited the library today and came away with a couple of books - hopefully they're straight forward!
Don't be surprised if I drop you an email for some advice!

Thanks for popping into my blog today.

It's always so frustrating to make mistakes like that Nicky--the good thing is we have all done silly things in our crafting at one time or another (and then we often make the same mistake again!!)...

Your patchwork looks amazing, though, and I do love the adorable ornament you finished :) Wishing you a most happy Christmas with your family!!

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only duffer who makes those sorts of errors Nicky, can you make something of the panels anyway?
The quilt blocks are great, the accuracy of such stitching boggles my mind!
