Another month has come and gone, and for a change there has been some action in the sewing department. I finally attached the red spotty binding to my Scrappy Trip quilt that Linda quilted for me when I won a very generous giveaway on her blog.... the hand stitching is about halfway done now......
Last weekend I attended a fabulous retreat with the quilting group I joined last year, so much sewing time, lovely ladies, fabulous food and lots of laughs..... before I went I started a new scrappy project to work on at retreat. I've been fascinated with spiderweb blocks for a long time, but all the foundation paper pieced patterns I'd seen had scared me off.... until I found this wonderful tutorial where your plain fabric is used as the foundation. The blocks are a great way to use scraps, they are slow to piece but I am so pleased I persevered as I love the overall effect.

Once my spiderweb was finished it was time to start a Swoon at retreat, I've been planning this for a while to use a lovely bundle of Hope Valley fabrics I'd been saving for just the right quilt. These blocks are massive - 24" square, but fun to put together!
Other than retreat there has been lots of these to work with..........
..... and a few of these..... the two calves our girls hand-reared two years ago, Ash & Donny......

Love the spiderweb quilt. Not being a quilter I'm always amazed at how the pattern in the block translates into the whole quilt: From having the star as the focus to having the rings as the focus.
Sounds like you really enjoyed retreat and got some fabulous sewing time in!! Your projects are lovely - the spiderweb has turned out beautiful and I can see that your Swoon blocks will be delightful as well. Looks like the autumn is going well down on the farm, you are nice and green :-)
I really love the spider web quilt! It looks gorgeous! Have wanted to do a swoon quilt also, love yours! You look to still have some green stuff down your way? Retreats are great for getting things done.

Cute spotty binding. I really like spiderweb quilts too, I have a pattern for the same method you have used. looks very pretty. Your swoons are coming along nicely, you do well to get this all done with your busy life on the farm. Still a retreat is a great place to get so much done, ours is coming up soon , I can't wait!

Wow! Stunning work there, well done. Still a little bit of green at your place, it's getting rather brown up here in the Waikato. Hope we get some rain soon! We had a crafty weekend in the barn and I didn't take any photo's, what a slacker, but we are having Thursday crafts in the barn whilst the weather holds, so I shall make up for my slackness.
