A baby dresden

I'm having a go at blogging from my phone so please disregard this if it doesn't work properly.  This is my first little dresden with all the petals sewn together.... fiddly but fun.  When you make dresden plates do you machine or hand applique to the background?  Ditto for the centre circle, needleturn or machine?

Till next time. ........... Happy Stitching ............ Nicky x

I haven't done one yet ... but all my applique (and I do do a lot of that) is sewn on the machine - satin stitched raw edges.

That dresden is so pretty Nicky. I've only hand appliqued but I don't see why you can't machine sew it on especially if you think it may be stronger - as it's for a baby the quilt may be in the wash a lot.

It's so pretty! I machine appliqued mine, although I think hand applique might look better.

Love the dresden. It is totally up to you if you hand or machine sew. I was going to hand sew my hexies onto my cushion and ended up doing them by machine. Looks good and pleased I did or it would never get done.

So pretty love your gawjas colours... I'm hand sewing mine on but you could machine them on its your choice.

Love the soft colors in your dresden. I usually hand applique, but machine is a great look too!

Dresdens are my favourite block!
I think your quilt will be finished well before mine. Your block is soft & pretty, what size is this?

P.S I have been hand appliqueing mine, but I have also seen them done on the machine. Once I saw the edges done with a fancy embroidery stitch on the machine at the time of quilting, so it is part of the quilting.

Pretty Nicky, I machine applique as I'm too impatient

Lovely Nicky. You are so quick at putting things together. Looking forward to seeing the completed quilt - no pressure!!

I haven't done one like yours, but on my Mariner's Compass wall hangings, I machine the centre circle in, clipping it carefully, pinning into 1/8ths first. Beautiful shades. Cheers from Jean

That turned out so well! Beautiful colors and looks so perfect to me. I never do applique so I can't help you out there. I'm sure either way will turn out great in your capable hands!

Beautiful Block My Favourite...Usually Hand Appliqué looks Nicer as a finish....you can Machine with blind stitch or tiny satin but Personally I don't like the finished look.

One of my ALL TIME favourites. You can do either... I usually machine sew and the project dictates what method I use. I like both turned edge and blanket stitch. You'll decide what is right for you I'm sure! :)

The fabrics are so pretty. I imagine had sewing is the ideal but I always use the machine, even for a needle turn affect.

Very pretty Nicky, I always hand sew because that's the way I was taught and because my sewing machine hates me.
