A not so scrappy trip

Yesterday I pieced the last 6 blocks in my version of the scrappy trip quilt that took the quilting world by storm a couple of months ago - you know me, better late than never right?!   It has taken me a couple of weeks to get this one done, but I am thrilled with the final result.  It is not exactly scrappy as the fabrics - Sweet Broderie by Rosalie Quinlan and some Lecien Basic spots and dots - were originally destined for the Vignette Mystery quilt designed by Leanne Beasley(my first block below.)  However I knew after tracing the stitchery of that first block that there was no way I would ever finish a quilt with that much stitchery and applique - it would sit around gathering dust FOREVER.  So when I saw all the scrappy trip quilts appearing I knew I had my perfect pile of fabrics waiting for me!  It is one of the largest I've made at 60 x 72" and now I have to think of how I will quilt it...... any ideas??
Still love this block - maybe it will end up a cushion......

Here is part of the reason I've been absent from blogging recently, our girls recently got ponies, and we've been spending a lot of time working with them as they learn the ropes.  It has been a very long wait for the girls, our eldest has been dreaming of her own pony for years now, and the day has finally arrived.  Lots of fun being had by all(and anxious times for a Mum who is not really into horses - but we are learning together.)

Today I have plans to finish my pincushion for the Stitch-A-Long blog, it is the last day of the month of course so it has to happen today!  I'll be back later to share the progress on that and   some pics of a recent swap...... I hope you have a wonderful Easter Sunday today.......Nicky x

PS: Thanks for the comments on the Bloglovin - is it just me or is there no way of reading a full post in Bloglovin without clicking through to the actual site?   I'm not entirely sold on Bloglovin yet, but will give it a go for a while.

Good morning! I love what you have done with those fabrics - your not so scrappy look is gorgeous!! The Vignette did look like a lot of work - I'm not surprised it didn't quite make it! Lucky girls with their ponies, life will never be the same!! I speak from experience :-)

The scraps look like they are placed with lots of thought and care, and lovely pic of wide paddocks, horses and hills. Yes, ponies, training, saddles and all else take up so much time, but they must be enjoying their new horses so much.Ditto to Raewyn's comment!!! Have you had any rain? Cheers from Jean

Leanne Beasly works is beautiful but a lot of work. - Loved how you have adapted it! But then I love scrappy quilts.

I'm not a horsey gal either - your a good mum letting your girls have the pony love!
Love Leanne

I agree about vignette. I am surprised so many people did it. I saw quite a few who dramatically reduced the stitching. Bloglovin is meant to be a way to list the posts and ensure you do not miss your favourite blogs. My understanding is that you do not read the blogs via bloglovin. Heaps of people follow so many blogs that they use the google reader tool - I never did BUT it does look like removing that tool could affect things.

I love your quilt Nicky. Those fabrics are gorgeous. That was a good idea to use them when you knew in your heart you'd never finish the Vignette quilt. You could finish the block and make it into a cushion to sit on your quilt. I hope you and your family have a lovely Easter. Enjoy those ponies! Hugs, Christine

It's lovely Nicky and looks great in those fabrics. Great idea to use the fabric on a new quilt you love instead of a UFO. Good luck with the ponies......and the pincushion.

Hi there Nicky. Good for you letting your girls have ponies. My parents weren't really horsey people but my sister & I were both lucky to have horses, we went to pony club together & shows & hunts, all very special memories.
I think your abandoned Vignette block would make a lovely cushion. You could simply cross hatch your quilt, or if you are skilled in FMQing you could do a nice all over design using variegated thread?
Your paddocks look lovely & green, maybe it was all that rain in December you had?
Happy Chocolate munching!

That's a ton of squares to sew together. Fabulous quilt topbso well worth the effort.

Lucky girls! Who didnt dream of owning a pony!

Bloglovin is a pain. Google Reader was the only one I know that let you read the posts without clicking through to each site.

Have a nice Easter!

The quilt top looks beautiful Nicky, I love the colours.
I don't mind Bloglovin. I go to the Blovlovin site and then read from oldest to newest, that way it brings up each whole post. You can always click on the top of the page to remove Bloglovin to be on the actual blog you are reading. It's different to google reader, but I love the fact it is way easier to unfollow or unsubscribe to blogs than Google Reader.

Your scrappy quilt is gorgeous Nicky, the fabrics are perfect for it. I so know what you mean about the Vignette quilt, I'm not sure I will make it to the finish sometimes!! Enjoy your ponies and Easter weekend.

the quilt is gorgeous. I have to say I don't like the proper scrappy trips, but this one is lovely.

You could try Feedly - you can read the full post in the feed reader, if the blogger allows it, there are always some where you have to click over th read the full post.

Your scrappy trip quilt is gorgeous...the fabrics are perfect, so fresh and pretty...
I'm still getting used to Bloglovin' too but although a post opens in a new window and looks just like the blogsite, it is actually still being read in Bloglovin. I've a few site feeds where the bloggers has their settings so that the whole blog post can't be read in Google Reader to force going to their site if you want to read the whole post - I have one that takes so long to load with all the advertising and whatnot that most of the time I don't bother unless the first few lines of the post really grab me...in Bloglovin'
because it is just a snapshot of the actual site it doesn't take forever to load as I'm not actually visiting the blog, if you look at the top of the screen of the post you are reading you'll see the Bloglovin' menu bar is there, you are reading in a frame, you are still in the Reader just a new window...and to scroll through your post feeds you can use the newer/older buttons in the menu bar to move from blog to blog...

Hmmm I'm a bit further into vignette than you, but I'm getting the distinct feeling I'm not going to finish it. I didn't realise all the stitichery was going to be the same everywhere. That bores me. And I'm a bit sad about it coz I spent so much on it. I've even made all the shoo fly blocks. I know I will use the fabrics, but what to do with the blocks I have finished I wonder?? I'm sure we're not the only 2 who've got to this stage. This farm girl is not really horsey either!

The scenery where the girls are riding their horses is magnificent. What a beautiful part of the world to live in. I love your quilt top - I have a load of fabrics for Vignette and I didn't even start - you got further than me :) I'll keep this quilt top in mind for my fabrics.

Love your quilt - the colours are fab. So glad you were able to find ponies for the girls. I can just imagine how much fun they must be having.

Hi Nicky
Your not so scrappy quilt looks amazing, well done. You know I feel the same way about the Vignette quilt, I started it to but after awhile I knew I would never continue with it. I should make cushions with what I've done to, the girls look so good on their lovely ponies. Oh such fun.
