A blast from the past and a set of twins

I've been seeing a few 1/2" hexagon projects around recently and thought I'd dig out and share this abandoned long-forgotten Grandmothers Flower Basket that I started when the girls were little, about 8 years ago.  I'm not sure exactly what I was thinking, when I chose marble fabrics for the flowers and just any old random green prints for the leaves.  There are so many different shades of green in there it just about makes me sick to look at it now.  It was all done the old fashioned way, me tracing and cutting out freezer paper templates and hand basting, it's a wonder they fit together at all!  And those little hexies are small, 1/2" sides seemed tiny at the time, but they're all the 'in' thing now!  Now that it's out, maybe I should add a stitch or three, after all it is on my WIP list (a little optimistic to have it there maybe....)  So now you can see that starting projects and never finishing them is not a new concept for me ......... I am experienced at it........LOL

Here are a couple of farm pics........ a set of day old twins with Mum.......

And a view from the bush looking down through the kowhai trees across to the hills beyond .......

Well I hope you're having a great day ..........Till next time................ Happy stitching ............. Nicky

Must be the season for pulling out old WIPs...I'm currently stitching my 15 year old son's baby blanket LOL. Your hexies are great...I would DEFINITELY knock that one off the WIP list now that you've pulled it out, especially since hexies are so trendy ;)

Isn't it a dreadful feeling to pull out an old project and not like the colours anymore. After so much work with those tiny hexies, it would such a waste to throw it out.
Lovely lambs, and it's so green. I love NZ. We were in the South Island in April and I would go again tomorrow if I could. A very special part of the world.

There's nothing quite like a little lamb, it just says 'spring' to me! Maybe you could change the greens, there's not too many of them, it might make you feel better about the project...:O)

how cute are those lambs... it would be a pity to waste the work done with those tiny hexies... if you don't like it what about turning some of them into a purse or turtle?

well it is on your wip, and it's out now might as well work on it. Unless it bugs you that much and you are tempted to unpick (shudder)
Twins yea they have play mates but no doubt your farm will have lots more.

I love your little hexie piece. That really takes patience!

Those new twins are just so adorable. You get to be surrounded by cuteness like that all the time in that beautiful setting, lucky girl!

Lovely photo of your farm Nicky and the lambs too, they look healthy and strong. Nice to see I'm not the only one with these odd wips - I sometimes wonder what I was thinking - my first ever quilt (unfinished) from about that time also had lots of those marble-y fabrics - maybe it was the thing then?

Hello Nicky,

Good luck with your UFO, had to smile at Suzitee's UFO. I think we would all have a project or two hiding in our sewing rooms. Love the farm photo's.

Have a great weekend.

Isn't it funny how our taste changes over the years! Keep plodding away with it! You might have it finished in the next 8 years!! As for me - I just started a new long term project!! ;) OOPS!! Your new arrivals are gorgeous!
