No excuses

There really are no excuses for why I've not been here, just seems like life got in the way this month.

Here is a little of what's been going on .......................... I finally got these parcels on their way to a mystery destination for the fabulous SSCS exchange.........

And the next step on the first of my pinwheel baby quilts for our friends twins......... the blocks are pieced for the second quilt, but still need to join them together and ponder those prairie points.

I'm happy to say that the final block of my A Gardeners Journal quilt from the original project at the Stitch-A-Long blog is getting closer to finished, still a hand, some feet, arms, two eyes and some greenery to go............. but progress is being made!
A couple of weeks ago I dug out a long neglected project, Stitching Round the Block, this round I am so behind on is for Janis, who probably thinks it's never going to make it home.  I have set myself the goal of having it done by Christmas, and have most of the hexies made now.  This whole project really scared me....... but now I really wish I had just got stuck into it when it arrived!    Making the hexies wasn't so bad, but I'm very worried about taking the papers out and stitching them onto the background.  Any tips would be gratefully received...................?

So that's about it from me to sum up November on the crafting front, there is lots of farm work happening, weaning some lambs in the next few days, then shearing old ewes, crops to get sown, grass paddocks to be sown, it's all go round here!  The girls have had swimming lessons in town after school every day for the last two weeks, I am SO looking forward to some days at home, what a joy it is to have a day where I don't have to leave the property!    Not to mention the fast approach of Christmas ............. I can't stay in denial for much longer I don't think. LOL

Till next time(hopefully not quite so long though) .............. happy stitching..........Nicky

The baby quilts look really pretty. I'm sure your prairie points will be perfect.

I bet you'll actually be sad to see the Gardener's Journal come to an end. Those designs are just so much fun.

That hexie thing looks way too complicated for me. Yours are so perfect.

I think with all you have going on, it's amazing how much crafty work you get done!

I love the quilt, I love the stitching... all lovely.... and lovely to see another SSCS on its way I did the stitcharound.... and I found that it worked quite well with quite a firm starching and pressing to hold the shape...

Nice to see you back! Janis was just asking about you yesterday- :-) I did the hexies by giving them a good press and carefully removing the papers. I think I may have done a bit of basting around the edges to make sure they stayed 'true' when I sewed them on too..??
I think I'm going to have to do the Gardeners' Journal one day - it really is a lovely quilt.
As for the pinwheels - gorgeous.

Some months are just like that, Nicky :) Good to see your GJ is still in the mix...mine came back from the quilter on the weekend (after almost a year!!!) so it's now just waiting on binding....another thing on the to-do list! Your hexies are divine...no advice from me though, as I've never made one :)

You've been all go and super productive! Beautiful work on everything. I love days when I get to not leave the house--it's amazing how much time is actually spent driving kids to and from activities, etc.

The mystery desination for those pretty parcels was my house! Yay for me!!! Thank you so much for the gorgeous decoration. Impatiently waiting now for Christmas Day to open the other two gorgeously wrapped surprises.
Your pinwheels are so pretty, love a good pinwheel.
It looks like you baste hexies the way I do with the basting not going through the papers so there is no need to remove the basting so this is the way I do it (who knows if it is the "right" way but hey, it works for me. The two things I have to hand when I take papers out are a can of Crisp (spray starch, not iron aid) and a good hot dry iron...I lay the hexies right side down on the ironing board, give a good spray with Crisp, press well, leave a minute to cool and be nice and dry...turn over and repeat with the fabric right side up...so they are well and truely starched with nicely ironed into submission edges...then straight away pin to the background fabric. Have fun with your hexie flowers, they are lovely.
